Here’s the formula: WPM = (Total Characters Typed ÷ 5) ÷ Time in Minutes

Let’s say you typed 300 characters in 1 minute:

• Step 1: 300 characters ÷ 5 = 60 standard words
• Step 2: 60 words ÷ 1 minute = 60 WPM

Your typing speed is 60 Words Per Minute!

What if you typed for 30 seconds? That’s half a minute:

• Step 1: 300 characters ÷ 5 = 60 standard words
• Step 2: 60 words ÷ 0.5 minutes = 120 WPM

In 30 seconds, your WPM would be 120 because you’re typing the same number of words in half the time, making your speed twice as fast per minute.

If you typed “dog” perfectly, your accuracy would be (3 ÷ 3) × 100 = 100%!

AWMP Example

WPM = 60

Accuracy = 67% 

AWMP = WPM x Accuracy

            = 60 x 0.67

           = 40.2 AWMP
